Choir Wins at State Contest

Vian High School Choral Competitive Ensemble traveled to Oklahoma Baptist University Friday, April 22, 2022 to compete at OSSAA's 3A State Choral Competition. The choir received all superior ratings and was presented with 14 state medals. Senior Emily Foster, Junior Gavin Stinnett, and Freshman Zayley Cheater all received superior ratings for their solos along with medals as well.

In order for the choir to even compete at the state level, they had to receive top superior ratings at district contests back in March at Muskogee High School.

"The students have had a very successful year. Seven students made Eastern District Honor Choir, Zayley Cheater placed first in regional districts for Soprano 1 and auditioned and made OCDA Allstate Mixed Choir. Emily Foster auditioned and made  OKMEA Allstate Women's Chorus and nine middle school students were selected for the district Circle the State With Song. It has been an amazing year and I am so blessed to work with so many talented students. I love teaching in my hometown. It's a great community to live and work in. I think of my mom and how she inspired me to teach music. It has been the greatest decision of my life. I'm truly blessed! I'm excited to see what next year entails!"  Christina Howard-Herriman
