How to Survive in Mrs.Trotter's Class

How to Survive in Mrs. Trotter’s Class

  1. What to do when the bell rings

First of all, we do not have a bell in this building! When it is time to start class and the tardy bell should be ringing- I shut the door. My classroom door remains locked due to safety reasons since we are an outside building. If you enter the room after I shut the door, you are considered tardy.

  1. Tardies

If you are not in the classroom when class starts I will record a tardy in the computer for the class period. Refer to the Student Handbook on procedures dealing with frequent tardies.

  1. How to enter my classroom

Students will enter the classroom with their hands to themselves. No pushing or shouting is allowed. I do not want students crowded around my desk. Only one or two students approach me at a time if there is a problem. Students ARE NOT allowed behind the teacher’s desk for any reason. Student should not move the chairs around to a different table.

  1. What students are going to do for my attention

Please raise your hand until I can call on you, however, in some cases you may need to call my name.

  1. How to quiet our noisy class

At some times everyone gets carried away when we are having discussions. In a loud voice I will say “Hey, hey!” The class must immediately respond with Ho, Ho! Another common phrase I use is to sing a song lyric and you sing the second half then get silent.

  1. Restroom Breaks

No one is allowed to leave the classroom unless it is an emergency. However if you feel you have a restroom emergency during class time, You  must sign the chart on the door and put your leaving and entering time. This is for your safety and to account for your class time.

  1. What to do if an emergency alert sounds

Please refer to the student handbook. We will have lockdown, intruder, tornado and fire drills. In our building, we will gather in the hall in the back of the choir room. Most of you might not be aware it even exists. We will be practicing this in the next few days. We will also use the west doors to exit the building in case of a fire. We will walk together as a class to the first tall rock structure near the end of the Jr. High parking lot. Stay in a line and listen quietly for your name to be called from the class roster.

  1. What to do if a pencil breaks

If the teacher is speaking in front of the class, you must raise your hand and get permission to sharpen your pencil. During times when the class is independently working you do not need to get permission.

  1. What to do at dismissal time

until you have been properly dismissed. I will not tolerate students standing around the room or at the door waiting remain in your seatsThe teacher will dismiss the class; not the bell. Please on the bell.

  1. Assignments

Most assignments will be passed out in the form of a worksheet. We will read a passage in your textbook, do a smart board activity, or a minilab before your begin individual work.

  1. Where to find an assignment if you have been absent

I have a makeup folder that I keep at the front of my room. It is your responsibility to get your makeup work when you return to school.

  1. Where completed papers go

Students place their completed work in the corresponding trays on my desk.

  1. What students will do when they finish an assignment

your phone or read or play games on MAY notSome days I will have crosswords or magazines for you to look at. Please get into the habit of bringing a library book to class. You other electronic device in my classroom.

  1. Cells Phones

We will not need to use cell phones for any educational purpose in this classroom. Do not have them out where they are seen. Put them in your pocket or in a purse or bag. If you are looking at your phone when you enter the building, walking through the hall or bathroom- it will be confiscated according to the Student Handbook Procedures. No exceptions!

  1. Listening and Responding to Questions

Please remain quiet while others are speaking. If you have a question, you may raise your hand. I encourage all students to participate in class discussions, and I expect all students to have an equal chance to voice their opinions in class discussions.

  1. Working Cooperatively

I think working with peer is an excellent way to learn. We will work in groups on several occasions. I will assign group members at a later date.

  1. Keep desks orderly

Please do not write on the desks or walls. Do NOT rock back in your chairs. Keep them on the floor at all times. Abusing this will result in lunch detention. It destroys our chairs and it is also a safety hazard.

  1. Passing in Papers

Please pass your papers to the inside of your group row. The person sitting closest to them middle is in charge of making sure everyone has their name on the paper. They must also make sure all papers are turning right side up and all facing the same direction.

  1. Exchanging papers

Everyone will pass their paper to the person sitting to your right. If you are at the end of the row and no one is sitting to your right, you must physically get up and take your paper to the person at the beginning of the row.

  1. When visitors come into the classroom

If someone is visiting with me, do not talk. Please hold all questions until that person leaves. Be polite and keep quiet and busy.

  1.  Emergency Situations

If I must leave the classroom in an emergency situation, I expect you to STAY in your seats. No one is allowed to be up, and I EXPECT you to act even better than when I am in the classroom. Dealing with misbehavior is not something I want to have to worry about when there is an emergency situation.
