Safe Return and Continuity of Services Plan

Vian Public Schools

2021-2022 Safe Return and

Continuity of Services Plan

Vian Public Schools has taken and will continue to take action to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff.  A description of actions previously taken and the continuation of health and educational services is provided here. This plan was developed in conjunction with local and state health officials and created with input from school and community members. Our goal is to fully return to school while maintaining procedures that will keep our students and faculty safe.

Safe Return

  • Traditional in-person learning will resume for the 2021-2022 school year and remain in place as long as COVID-19 infections remain at a level that indicates that in-person learning is safe for students and staff.

  • Traditional school calendar will be observed.

  • Staff will continue with increased cleaning of school buildings and buses.

  • Students and staff will observe increased hand washing procedures and have access to sanitizers.

  • Temperatures will be checked upon entering school buildings.  Individuals with symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, may not enter.

  • Visitor access to buildings will be limited.

  • Students and staff must stay home if exhibiting symptoms of illness. Parents will be contacted if students exhibit symptoms of illness while at school. Staff will self-screen and stay home if they are sick. VPS encourages individuals with COVID symptoms to be tested so that the spread of the virus can be detected and stopped quickly.

  • School administration will conduct contact tracing in collaboration with local health authorities.

  • Staff members have received access to vaccines.  Students have received information as to how to receive the vaccine.

  • Appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities are provided on a case by case basis so that the individual needs of the student may be addressed.

  • According to previously stated policy, masks are required when community spread of COVID is high.

Continuity of Services

  • Vian Public Schools will provide extended and enriched learning opportunities for students throughout the calendar year. Summer school and extended school year services are available. Staff are engaged in targeted and ongoing professional development in order to provide effective instruction and learning interventions for students. During the school year, students will be assessed, monitored and instructed based on their learning needs. Feedback will be provided to students and parents frequently.

  • The district will increase services to address social-emotional learning and mental health needs through a multi-tiered system of support.  Through partnerships with local counselors, students and faculty will have access to mental health supports and encouragement. VPS will explicitly teach healthy social, emotional, and academic behaviors to all students with a scientifically research based social-emotional learning curriculum.

  • Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students.  Seating is arranged to allow for physical distancing while eating.
