8th Grade Students Tour KXMX

Eighth grade gifted/talented students recently toured KXMX 105.1 The Mix in Sallisaw as part of an enrichment lesson on radio waves and broadcasting. The students learned about the history of radio, facts about their satellites and towers, and even broadcasting. Several students were chosen to participate in hands-on activities at the station. Maxwell Ross, an eighth grader, did a newsflash in the studio on a green screen and learned how to read from the teleprompter like a real reporter. The newsflash can be viewed on the Mix's 105.1 Facebook page and the Vian Public School Facebook page. Rayken Massey and Katherine Creasey were able to take part in a live interview with radio show host and sports director, Justin Pettit, from JP and the Morning Show. The students learned about real careers in multimedia and how radio waves are broadcast around the world from Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
